Thatcher update

Thatcher is growing up so fast. When he says witty things or tells me things he knows sometimes it blows my mind that I have a kid old enough to have such normal conversations with. He is a really sweet kid and really tries to please for the most part. James brings out the wild side in Thatcher and Thatcher has a tendency to enjoy being the class clown, but he is usually the sweet obedient boy he has always been.

-He has enjoyed preschool the last couple months and is so good at making friends. His closest friends since we have moved are Liam, Corey, Talon, and Macy. Macy is Thatcher's first crush and it is the cutest, purest, most innocent love I have ever seen. He loves to make things for Macy and the other day he even gave up his opportunity to pick out something special at the store because he wanted to get something beautiful for Macy instead. Last week he took a bracelet he had made for Macy to church and Thatcher's teachers told me that watching him give her the bracelet was the cutest thing they had ever seen. Macy brought over a little thank you note the other day and Thatcher was on cloud nine. Then we ended up going to the zoo with Macy and her mom yesterday and the two of them together was pretty sweet to watch. They are cute friends together. Thatcher knows how to write her name and today while drawing with chalk he drew a picture of her, a heart, then a picture of him (in blue) then he wrote her name and his name. He came up with all of it on his own. It has been really fun for me to watch a new side in him develop with his first crush.

-Thatcher gave a talk before we moved from Flagstaff and he did a great job. Here it is:
I can be a missionary by serving others.
When Jesus was living on the earth he served many people.
He healed the sick
He clothed the naked.
He was a friend to the friendless.
Because he served others, he was a great missionary.
People wanted to know about the gospel; because they felt of Jesus's love.
I am trying to be a missionary be serving my friends who don't know a bout Jesus. I serve my friends by being a good example and by inviting them to family home evening. I love Jesus and I want everyone to know about him. We can all be missionaries by serving those around us. I say these things...

-Thatcher finished his 100th reading lesson in January. And he did awesome. We aren't reading as much as we should, but he is doing a good job and reads pretty well. It is so fun that the world of reading is open to Thatcher at such a young age. He is a pretty amazing kid!

- Thatcher loves "building things". His interest in coloring, painting, even using stickers, and making anything creative has increased quite a bit recently and I love what he comes up with. He is so clever and he has always been so fun to watch at pretend play, but I love seeing it develop into other interests as well.

- Thatcher is quite the story teller. He does a great job of developing elaborate stories to play pretend with (the mouse that he and James take care of, the family of dinosaurs they pretend to be, the pirates and Captain Hook on a treasure hunt, etc.). Sometimes at bedtime he will tell James really great stories that I will eavesdrop on. He is such an imaginative little boy.

- Man does this kid loves holidays. His world revolves around what holiday is next. Here he is waving his St. Patrick's day flag and eating shamrock lucky charms with green milk. After church he went on a treasure hunt where he read all the clues himself and eventually found a little pot of gold chocolate and treats for him and James.

Thatcher is such a good playmate and friend. He is so easygoing and friendly to everyone. The other day I came downstairs after a shower and there were three ten-year-old girls in our house that Thatcher had made friends with. He taught them how to shoot his bow and arrow and was quite the little host. Kids just love him, no matter what age and he is so easy to get along with.

- Thatcher still loves riding his bike and continues to impress everyone who sees him. In Flagstaff all of Thatcher's little friends were riding at such a young age, but here it isn't very common to see such a little guy on a big kid bike flying down the road. We rode bikes down to Thatcher's new school right when they started building it.

- Oh, and Thatcher is the nicest, most loving, and sweetest older brother in the whole world. He always talks about how cute Hadley is, how special she is, and how much he loves her...and he shows it too. He really loves James too and tries to be so good to both his siblings

Thatcher got his haircut in November and thought the faux-hawk look the hairdresser gave him was pretty cool.

 Playing "mice" with James
Thatcher waiting for his ride to preschool. He gets so excited every day that he insists on waiting outside even if it is freezing.
Thatcher is pretty impressive with a snow shovel and a really good sport when it comes to freezing, blizzard like conditions.

- And last but not least. I wish I were better about writing funny things that Thatcher says down, but one thing he said to Cathy in November cracked me up and I still have no idea where it came from (considering he has probably eaten Cheetos three times in his life), but here is a funny Thatcher quote, "I eat Cheetos when I am happy and bananas when I am sad."
