Yesterday was Simon's birthday party. The boys got to take their wiggle cars to the party which was very exciting for them. They decorated their cars, then went to Simon's house for snacks and rice krispie treats.

friends
Thatcher loves his friends. While a bunch of them were over last week Thatcher entertained his girlfriend Lexi and then showed off his craziness by climbing up on the shelves in the closet. I still don't know how he got up there.

snow
Last Saturday we woke up to a foot of snow. It definitely changed our plans, but we ended up having a fun day anyway. We watched a show on netflix in the morning, then Thatcher spent a few hours out in the snow playing, shoveling, and sledding with dad. It was really cold and snowing throughout the day, but Thatcher didn't seem to mind. James, on the other hand, was not such a fan of the snow. I got him all bundled up two different times and both times we ended up back inside before too long. We ended up in a much warmer place on the couch watching Thatcher and Ty sled out our window.

15 months
Jamesy. He is the best. I love that his head circumference is off the charts. I love that he is so chunky and kind of short (like his mom). I love that he was an angel for the doctor today. I love that he is super healthy and right on track in every way. I love that he is talking more and more. Today he said 'nana' for banana, 'please', and 'bit' which means ribbit when he plays with our stuffed animal frogs (he makes them jump when he does it too). I love his dance moves. I love his hugs and his kisses. I love it when he waves goodbye. I love how much he loves Thatcher. I love his love for books (as long as he is the one doing the looking, the reading, and the page-turning). I love that he can shove four pieces of cantaloupe in his mouth at once and that he can find every last black bean in whatever soup or salad I put them in. I love it when he folds his arms for prayers and his love of balls. I love how crazy loud he gets and his laugh. I love how he loves containers...he loves to put things in places and loves to fit himself wherever he can too (baskets, toy boxes, cupboards, Bekah's wreath in the picture below, etc.). He is the best. I don't know what I would do without my baby.

random thoughts
Ty passed the bar! We are so excited and so proud...but now the option of moving to Utah is really a possibility if we want it to be. Sometimes I don't want to have options, I just want to be told what to do and have confidence that we are where we are supposed to be.
Last night Ty and I watched "Hoarders" and I am newly committed to deep cleaning my house and getting rid of everything. EVERYTHING. I don't want stuff.
James is walking more and more and I love it. He is extra motivated if he sees animals on the TV screen. He will walk across the room to get to them. Today at the doctor's office James rearranged the stool, step stool, and two kids' chairs many times before the doctor came in. He cracks me up.

Some recent Thatcher-isms (be warned...they are extremely cute):
Ty asked Thatcher to turn around and go back to his bed tonight when he got out of bed. So Thatcher did just that, he turned around in a circle and went back upstairs.
This afternoon when both boys were supposed to be asleep in separate rooms taking naps, I found them in James's crib with a fake candle just talking to each other.

Tonight James was crying quite a bit after putting him down to bed. I went upstairs to take him some milk and found Thatcher on the floor in front of the crib reading a book to his little brother. On his bed was a stack of books over a foot tall.
Earlier today during my Relief Society presidency meeting, Thatcher told Matt and Dallin that it was story time and he was going to read to them. He proceeded to read to them from his favorite Nemo book. I love that my 2-year-old wanted to read a story to his 4-year-old friends.
On Sunday Thatcher got pretty while Ty was in the shower. He decided that James needed to get a little pretty too.

please don't report me to CPS
We have had a few interesting events that happened in the course of two days. seriously, who has two days like this back to back?
Day one:
Thatcher took his rabbit on a 'walk'...this is what he told me later in the evening when I asked him for the 100th time why he went outside. When Logan was over, Thatcher slipped out the front door. It took a minute for me to even notice he was gone, then Logan and I spend a while looking all over in the house and in the garage because I really didn't think he would have left the house. When I realized he had to be outside we started searching the neighborhood. I was bare footed and so confused at where he could have gone when I saw a lady walking up the street holding Thatcher's hand. He had made it all the way out to a busy street and was just standing on the sidewalk. She stopped her car and decided to try and help the little boy who had no shoes on who was carrying around his bunny in an Easter basket.
About an hour earlier James pooped all over the floor. I had just changed a poopy diaper and was letting him air out for a minute when he started whining. I looked over and it was everywhere. All over his legs, clothes, and the carpet (smack dab in the middle of our living room). I took him to the kitchen sink first (which mostly resulted in him screaming and kicking and me and the sink getting covered in 'it'), then we made it upstairs to the bath tub. It was a huge mess.
About an hour before that, James fell out of his high chair onto the tile floor and hit his head. There is nothing like seeing your baby take a huge fall onto tile that makes you feel like a terrible parent. Not a good day...huh?
That was day one. Here is day two;
We spent a while outside. While outside...James almost got hit by a car while riding his trike (wearing no shoes, mud covered socks, and muddy pants), Thatcher ran down a hill in the middle of the street chasing his ball as I was yelling after him and trying to gather up James (who was also in the middle of the street), James started riding his wiggle car down this same big hill and I ran full speed for quite a while before catching up to him (this one was very lucky because he has tipped over on much smaller hills).
Then today...Thatcher managed to sneak out of the house again during my Relief Society presidency meeting. He took his fire truck with him and was making progress up the street (again...in his socks) when I found him.
Life is changing and I need to accept it. No more multi-tasking, no more taking my eyes of my boys for even a second, and no more leaving the front door unlocked. I have learned my lesson(s)...I promise.

us lately
Why does time go by so fast? Seriously...in the last week James has become and avid 'goodbye waver' and has added 'dad', 'hi', 'shoes', 'ash' which is either his way of saying Thatcher or James, and 'ball' to his list of words that he already says. He is taking more and more steps each day. He is so much fun and makes me laugh all the time. He is at the funnest age. I love how he plays games and is always trying to get laughs out of us. The night we got home from California he climbed up into his high chair twice all by himself...he is such a crazy daredevil. He is still the sweetest and snuggliest baby too and I just need to figure out how to get him to stop growing.

I love these pictures of my James. He is always so happy and so disheveled when he wakes up from his nap and this picture captures it perfectly.

I love my little guy. Pants-less, snotty-nosed, excited to show me a pine needle, and surrounded by his cars. He is the best.

I love how crazy James is and how crazy I am to not have saved him and instead took a picture. Pretty impressive, huh? He gets up and down from this tv watching position all by himself.

Thatcher's imagination is continuing to dominate our life at home. Here he is playing with his cars and animals and then he had a 'dinner' where he was eating his toys and drinking milk. One of toys he had for dinner was his worm which is sticky and filthy...thus the super gross face. I was on the phone while he was eating his 'dinner' and was so confused when I saw his face like this. I thought he had been eating mud it looked so dirty (don't worry, I immediately threw it in the dishwasher and it usually isn't so gross).

I love my boys. They keep me on my toes, but I think life is so much better, richer, and more memorable when you are always on your toes!

big bear
We spent conference weekend in California with my dad and his family and Ry and Mel. We went to my dad's time share in Big Bear and had a great time. We were able to go sledding and skiing in gorgeous sunny weather and we also went to a pretty cool zoo where we got close to a bunch of animals, especially the mountain lions. Thatcher and James loved playing with the dogs, riding their wiggle cars, and getting lots of attention from their grandpa and their aunt Lexi.
